MEMS Report

A PicoPros reader alerted us to a great report on how microelectromechanical (MEMS) systems are playing an increasingly important role in mobile displays.  Specifically, mobile projection displays.

The attached PDF discusses the recent advancements made by several companies, including Maradin, MicroVision, and Texas Instruments.  Specifically, the report touches on TI's early lead in the pico projection marketplace with its DLP® technology.  However, laser-based projection displays from Maradin and MicroVision look to change this.  Maradin will be commercializing its chipset in early 2012.  MicroVision, on the other hand, has been selling its ShowWX™ line of products for a couple years now.  However, market penetration has been limited thus far due to cost.  However, this is poised to change with the emergence of direct-emitting green lasers, which will begin commericalization at the end of 2011.

The report has a lot of great information about the role MEMS is playing in advanced mobile projection displays.  Be sure to check it out.
