Recently, chinese-based electronics company Xiaomi has announced plans to expand it's reach to 10 new markets.  We'll forgive you if you haven't heard of them, but it's time you learned about them.  After introducing its first smartphone in late-2011, Xiaomi has garnered serious market share in China.  Now, with this latest announcement to expand beyond their homeland, companies like Apple and Samsung need to take note.  Seriously.

Today, MicroVision announced that they will be supplying custom display engines to UPS for a new package guidance system.  Utilizing their proprietary PicoP technology, these modules will project instructions onto packages in an effort to increase process efficiency at a UPS sorting facility.

Today, Texas Instruments, the leader in pico projection engines, has unveiled a 720p HD pico projector chipset.  Utilizing its new Tilt & Roll Pixel (TRP) technology, they are able to cram 1280x720 pixels into a display engine just 0.3-inches thick.

In a press release just published, Sony Corporation has announced that it has developed a high-definition laser pico projection module.  Utilizing MicroVision's PicoP technology, this tiny module can produce 720p HD resolution images with superior image quality that is always in focus.


Lemoptix Secures Funding to Bring Laser Pico Projection to Smartphones, Head-up Displays, and Wearables

Laser pico projection technology developer Lemoptix has announced that it has secured funding from existing investors and a new strategic investor, Swisscom Ventures, the venture arm of the Swiss telco.  While the exact amount of funding has not been made public, the funds will be used to bring their advanced laser-based MEMS scanning projection technology to market.  This technology is ideal for embedded projection in smartphones and tablets, as well as head-up displays (HUD) and even wearable devices (think Google Glass).
