In just a few weeks, QP Optoeletronics will debut some exciting new developments with their ultra-short throw pico projection technology.  Continuous improvements have resulted in a projection engine that has throw ratios of 0.5 to 0.3.  A typical pico projector will have a throw ratio of 1.4 to 2.2.  This means that a user can produce images that are 3-5 times (or greater) in size from a fixed distance.  This is a critical advantage for a pico projector.

The Projective Handheld Augmented Reality (PHAR) is a framework for the Android platform which addresses some complex steps towards projector-based augmented reality (AR). It was developed by Fraunhofer AICOS researcher Rui Marques while working for his master thesis. It took its starting point from an original idea by Klaus Schaefers, a former researcher from the same institution and is still an ongoing project.

Rumors are heating up, once again, that Apple will acquire Iraeli gesture technology firm PrimeSense.  Famously, PrimeSense's technology was employed by Microsoft for their first-generation Kinect gaming system.  However, in 2010, Microsoft acquired Canesta, forcing PrimeSense to rethink their business strategy.

Recently, Nissan has announced its plans to debut a set of AR Eyewear at the Tokyo Motor Show that are intended to enhance the driving experience.  While details are scant, we can say it looks an awful lot like Google Glass.  More than likely, these glasses will communicate with the automobile to display critical driving information, such as speed, directions, and perhaps weather conditions.
